Where is the Department of Communication Studies located?

Our department office is housed in 261 McMurran Hall. All of our Communication Studies faculty offices can also be found on the second floor of McMurran Hall.

 

What are the pre-requisites for the Communication Studies program?

Students need to have an overall university GPA of 2.0 and must pass three foundation courses with these minimum grade requirements:

COMM 201 - Public Speaking  C-

COMM 249 - History of Rhetoric  C-

COMM 250 - Introduction to Human Communication  C+

Does the department allow overrides into its courses?

To ensure that students can graduate in four years, overrides are granted on an "extreme need" only basis. Students should contact Dr. Linda Baughman, Dept. Chair  baughman@cnu.edu in order to request a course override.

 

How do I apply for Communcation Studies credit for an Internship?

COMM 491 - Practicum in Communication Studies is the program course number and name for Internships. A student must be of junior standing and receive the consent of the Internship Program Director in order to proceed.  Follow this link for detailed instructions on Internships. What is the difference between an Internship and Service Learning?

An Internship is comprised of 120 hours of association with an organization external to the classroom. A student arranges his/her schedule and obligations with the sponsor of that organization. Service Learning is a component of a regularly scheduled course which supports the program objectives. Students spend only 15-20 hours of civic engagement outside of the classroom in order to assist community needs.
