Commencement 2008 ! 

As part of the Communication Studies Persuasion class, students employ team work skills to coordinate fundraising events. Here, a group spent a Sunday afternoon at the local SPCA Shelter where they raised $200.
Proceeds were divided between the SPCA and the Communication Studies Endowment Fund which offers financial assistance for students who attend conferences and other educational venues.

On April 12th and 13th, the CNU community hosted a 12-hour American Cancer Society event in which teams gathered in The Freeman Center for a night of games, entertainment, walking , and fundraising in a collective cause to help the fight against cancer.
As a special tribute, the members of Lambda Pi Eta and the Communication Studies Department dedicated this year's team effort and fundraising to Tommy Gosser, son of faculty members Dr. Linda Manning and Prof. David Gosser. 
Communication Studies Team members raised over $500!

The Sigma Kappa chapter of Lambda Pi Eta, the Communication Studies honor society, won the 2007 Rookie Chapter of the Year award from the National Communication Association (NCA).

In addition, Dr. Michaela D.E. Meyer was selected as the chapter's Rookie Advisor of the Year.
In order to qualify for Rookie awards, a chapter must be within its first three years of inception, and an advisor must have served in that position for three years or less.
The Sigma Kappa chapter will receive a plaque and a check for $200 at the Lambda Pi Eta awards ceremony at the National Communication Association 2007 Conference in Chicago.

Association Book Award for his work The Rhetoric of Operation Rescue: Projecting the Christian Pro-Life Message

Dr. Nate French is a member of the Christopher Newport University Faculty Senate!

Lambda Pi Eta Honor Society meets bi-weekly during Fall and Spring Semesters in the Conference Room at Commonwealth Hall. Members plan, discuss, and lead LPE activities. Fundraising opportunities, educational workshops, and conference preparation are among the many group involvements.
Members Kristen Willett and Megan Tucker presented papers at the 2006 National Communication Association Conference.

The Communication Studies Department is housed in Commonwealth Hall, located on Warwick Boulevard behind the Warwick Restaurant. The Communication Studies faculty can be found in rooms 23 through 33.

Competitive Poster Sessions are incorporated into Dr. Michaela Meyer’s History of Rhetoric and Communication Studies class.
